What is a private email address?

Is the private email free?
The inbox costs nothing extra. It comes free with every number you rent, and numbers start from $1.99. Our free public numbers do not include one, because anyone can read their messages.
Is it a real email address?
Yes. It is a real mailbox on privnum.com that stays yours for as long as you keep the number, so you can use it for accounts you plan to keep, password resets included.
Can I choose my own address?
Yes. You pick the part before the @ (3 to 64 letters, numbers, dots, dashes or underscores) or take one of the suggestions. If a name is already taken, try another.
Can I get verification codes by email?
Yes. Verification codes, confirmation links and password resets sent to your address show up in your inbox, next to the SMS your number receives. That covers sites that check both a phone number and an email address.
Can I send email from it?
No, it is receive-only. You can read messages, download attachments and delete what you no longer need, but nothing can be sent from the address.
How long does my private email address last?
As long as the number it belongs to. After a rental ends, the mail you already received stays readable in your dashboard, and you can keep the address receiving mail on its own for 30 days at a time for $0.50. Your address is yours alone and is never given to anyone else.

It is built for privacy, not abuse. Spam, fraud or any other misuse breaks our Terms of Service and leads to account termination. Mail from banks and other regulated services is not supported.
