About WeChat verification
WeChat asks for a phone number before it creates an account, and it sends a code by text message to prove the number is yours. People use a virtual number for WeChat when they want a separate account for factories, clients or colleagues in China, when they are travelling and cannot receive texts on their home SIM, or simply to keep their personal number off one more platform. Developers who build Mini Programs or test a WeChat login also use a spare number for a clean test account.
The flow is short. Pick a country, copy the number into WeChat, and your WeChat verification code appears in your dashboard as soon as the text arrives. You only pay when the code is delivered; if nothing comes, the number costs you nothing. WeChat sometimes follows the SMS step with an extra security check, so read the tips below before you start, keep the account for your own use and follow WeChat's terms.
WeChat at a glance
- Code delivery
- A numeric code by SMS to the number you enter
- Extra checks
- New sign-ups often get a slider puzzle, and some are asked for a QR code scan by an existing WeChat user
- WeChat or Weixin
- Numbers from outside mainland China create a WeChat account; mainland China numbers create a Weixin account with separate terms
- Numbers per account
- A phone number is usually linked to one WeChat account at a time
Tips for a smooth WeChat verification
- Line up the security check before you buy the number. If WeChat asks a friend to scan a QR code, have that person ready, because the number's timer can be short and the whole sign-up has to finish before it runs out.
- Wait for the resend timer to run out instead of tapping resend again and again; repeated requests can get the number rate limited.
- If WeChat says the number cannot be used, or the sign-up fails its security check, get another number or try another country. You are not charged for a number that never received a code.
- Keep your password and WeChat ID somewhere safe. Logging in on a new phone can ask for a fresh SMS code, and this number is for one verification, so plan ahead if you will keep the account long term.
Private temporary number vs free public inbox
Free public inboxes are fine for a quick test, but every code sent to them is public. A private number keeps the sign-up code to you; for an account you will log in to again, add your own number or email and turn on two-step verification right after, or rent a number.
Private number
- One buyer per number for that activation
- The code shows only in your dashboard
- Pay only if the code arrives
- For one verification, up to about 20 minutes
Free public inbox
- Shared: anyone can read the messages
- Codes sent to it are public
- Numbers are often already used or blocked
- Free, with no account needed
WeChat number FAQ
What does a verification number for WeChat cost?
WeChat numbers cost from $0.20 to $4.27 today, with a median of $0.62 across 201 countries. The cheapest right now are United States ($0.20), United Kingdom ($0.20) and Canada ($0.20). Prices update several times a day, and you only pay if the code arrives.
Which country is best for WeChat verification?
The cheapest well-stocked countries for WeChat right now are United States, United Kingdom and Canada; if one number is turned away, try another country.
What if my WeChat OTP never arrives?
Not every number gets a code. If yours does not, you are not charged: the price is only held while you wait, and it goes back to your wallet automatically when the timer ends. You can also tap Cancel & refund after a few minutes and try another number.
How long do I have to receive the WeChat code?
Up to about 20 minutes per number; the timer on your number shows exactly how long. When a code comes, it usually arrives within a minute or two, but not every number gets one, because some apps turn certain numbers away. If nothing comes, the hold is refunded and you can try another number or country.
Is this a temporary number for WeChat?
Yes, and a private one: the number is yours alone for one WeChat verification, for up to about 20 minutes, and the code shows only in your dashboard. Free public inboxes are different: anyone can read the messages there.
Can I receive a second code or log in again later?
The number is meant for one verification within its window, so finish signing up in one go. If you need to log in again later or receive codes over weeks, rent a number instead.
Why does WeChat say the number is not valid or blocked?
Apps sometimes turn away certain number ranges, even real SIM numbers. If that happens, tap Cancel & refund and get another number or pick a different country. You are not charged for a number that never received a code.
Are these real SIM numbers?
Most of our numbers are real SIM numbers, and a few are virtual. If an app refuses a number, cancel it for a refund and try another country.
How do I pay?
Create a free account, then top up your wallet from $10 by card, crypto or the other methods shown at checkout. Numbers are paid from that balance, and unused balance stays for later numbers: it never expires, but it cannot be withdrawn. The price is held when you take a number and only charged once the WeChat code arrives.
Is it allowed to use a virtual number for WeChat?
Use our numbers only for your own accounts, and follow WeChat's terms and the law where you live. Temp Number is not affiliated with WeChat.
Why does WeChat ask an existing user to scan a QR code?
It is a security step WeChat uses for some new accounts, usually right after the SMS code. The helper scans the code on their own phone to vouch for you, and WeChat sets rules on who can help, so ask someone who has used WeChat for a while.
Does the country of the number matter for WeChat?
Yes. A number from outside mainland China creates a WeChat account under WeChat's international terms, while a mainland China number creates a Weixin account. Choose the country that fits how you plan to use the app.
